Art 28 notes...












Back in 2005-2006 I taught two semesters of a Fundamentals of Illustration/Animation class. I gave these notes to my students on the last day of class to remind them of points discussed through the semester. It helps to be mindful of the basics.

Last week, I had a dream that I was waiting at the airport terminal and there was an airshow going on. One of the planes doing loops in the air was a food cart...

...sometimes I have pretty cool dreams.

Dexter Duncan













This character is based on the fictional city of Armilla from Italo Calvino's "Invisible Cities". Dexter Duncan is the Mr. Fix-it of a deteriorating city--a repairman, plumber, crimefighter.

I imagined him being created in a similar vein to the BrothersFree toys, using real materials (cloth, metal, rubber) and having a TON of accessories while also being fully poseable.

Oh, and he has a trumpet too. . . and suction cups. . . because toys are always cooler when they hang.

Stupid me, I forgot to bring my sketchbook before going to the post office. Because what I thought would be a short, couple minute trip turned into an hour and a half wait. Luckily the lady in front of me lent me her pen and there's umm..."writing material" on hand.

Thank you, kind lady and thanks NYC post office, without you this (insert adjective) visit wouldn't be possible.
